The visit to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh  11/25/02

We (Pete, Chris, Noreen and myself) left at 8:30 a.m. from Pete's. We would have been at Children's a half hour early, but getting around in Pittsburgh is like finding track 9 3/4 to Hogwarts! But we were on time and warmly welcomed by Carol, Karen (Carol's department) and Maureen from Dr. Albright's staff.

A tour of the emergency area (50,000 per year come in that door!) followed. Then we saw the neonatal unit, and then the play room. The hospital tries at all points to be human - and we met no "we don't have time for you because we have important things to do" folks.

At noon we had lunch in a conference room and talked about common concerns. Karen has done much work with the Leukemia Foundation and shared insights from that perspective. She also has "how to" brochures from that outfit that she thinks will be helpful for us. Carol promised to check with their legal department concerning some of our litigation concerns.

Dr. Albright came in after lunch and spent an hour or more with us telling us of latest work and outlining hopes for the future. We saw dramatic before and after videos that underline the groundbreaking work his department is doing. The whole hospital is moving to new expansive digs and all hope that every area will benefit.

So it was a good day. All of us are invited back whenever anybody wants to go.   George
